These rods are intended for mapping and depth measurement using weights and special floats - markers. A good marker rod is actually a lousy fishing rod. Basically, it needs to be dead in action, which will then help you better feel the contours of the bottom. This is why most carp rods are unsuitable for marking. All Marker and Searcher rods have markings above the handle for easy measurement.
